Pastor Raymond Talavera was born in Spanish Harlem on November 3, 1958. A born and bred New Yorker, he had an experience in his childhood days that led him to yearn to seek God and learn about Him. Being a member of St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church he attended Mass faithfully, served as an Altar Boy, then eventually as Lector, with an intention of studying to join the priesthood. However, he heard the Gospel clearly and powerfully presented by Billy Graham on television, which led him to surrender his life fully to Christ at the age of 14. After taking the Knowing Christ Bible Study series, he served several years as Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and commissioned minister at Rehoboth Pentecostal Church. He also graduated from the Latin American Bible Institute and took post-graduate courses offered by the Moody Bible Institute. After many formative experiences he was called by the Lord to serve as Pastor of the Glory of Christ Church at the age of 28, and was ordained by Rev. Rafael Hernandez on June 15, 1987 in Guayama, Puerto Rico. He has been serving our congregation ever since, and prays to have many more years of life and health to continue serving our Lord and His people.
